Patrick Hynds graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1988 with a bachelor’s degree in Engineering. He was granted a commission in the U.S. Army as an Infantry officer.

Patrick commanded a mechanized infantry platoon in Germany for over a year before being assigned as the 5/5 Cavalry Mortar Platoon leader. He served in that post throughout his unit’s six months serving in Desert Shield and Desert Storm during the first gulf war. As a result of actions during the war Patrick was awarded the Bronze Star. After the war he left active duty and served in the US Army Reserve and attained the rank of Captain. Patrick also speaks fluent German.
